Used hearing aids. It use to be not all that long ago, there was a huge market for used hearing aids. Today, however, not so much, at least in the United States. One of the benefits that came with the increase in technology, was the ability to produce hearing aids more cheaply. Many of you are still aware of the extraordinarily high prices new hearing aids use to command. And in a lot of peoples opinions, still do. That's why a market was established for used hearing aids.
While there is still a need, and still a market for used hearing aids, it’s not anywhere as big as it use to be. With the rapid manufacturing processes in use today, the price of a brand new hearing aid, is in most cases, is almost as low as the price of a good used hearing aid. That lower price difference between a used hearing aid, and a new hearing aid, is what has caused a change in the used hearing aid market.
For those of you who still wish to purchase a used hearing aid, the prices have never been lower. You may have to look a little more harder to locate a good used hearing aid these days, but they are still out there. Just make sure the used hearing aid you are going to purchase is in good working order, and not so old that you can’t find hearing aid batteries for it, otherwise, you will just have to bring it into an audiologist to have it repaired or reprogrammed anyway, which defeats the purpose of buying a used hearing aid in the first place. Remember, that purpose being was to save some money in the first place.
It’s unfortunate that many today, just simply cannot afford the price of a new hearing aid. That’s just another reason for the used hearing aid market to still exist. Many church and non-profit organizations will raise funds to purchase used hearing aids for those in need in their community. If you are in need of a hearing aid, and can’t afford one, visit our Donate Hearing Aids for a few sources to begin your search.
Perhaps if you see a need for used hearing aids in your community, you can start a used hearing aid program to support those in need of a good hearing aid. Many times when a former hearing aid user passes away, their old hearing aids winds up stashed away in a drawer, or worse yet, simply toss in the trash as seemingly being useless.
Bottom line, used hearing aids are a terrible thing to waste.
